Cat Cafe in Spanish, Cafe Gato is more than just a cafe; it's a sanctuary for both humans and cats. By combining great coffee, a cozy atmosphere, and the joy of feline companionship, we create a unique and fulfilling experience for everyone who walks through our doors.
OUR MISSION
Cafe Gato, the first cat cafe in Providence, was founded with the mission to bring a community of coffee lovers together, one cup at a time, while fostering the well-being of our guests and cats, one adoption at a time. Cafe Gato’s purpose is to alleviate the over-crowdedness of animal shelters to allow for more cats to be rescued and increase the potential of adoptability within the feline community, as well as boost mental well-being of those in our community who are feeling the stress of everyday life. Our core values are based around our community, making a difference, and the quality of our services and products.
What is a Cat Cafe?
A cat cafe is a unique establishment where guests can enjoy their favorite beverages in the company of friendly, adoptable cats. It's a place where people can relax, socialize, and experience the therapeutic benefits of spending time with cats. Cat cafes serve as a bridge between animal shelters and the community, providing a home-like environment for cats to socialize and meet potential adopters.
ABOUT US
The idea of Cafe Gato came to life in October of 2023 when the husband and wife duo, Max and Kaylin, were on their way to a wedding in Michigan and came across Happy Cat Cafe, a cat cafe in Grand Rapids. Max, originally from Cuba and having moved to the US about eight years ago, and Kaylin, a passionate Rhode Islander, adopted their dog Kirby during the pandemic in 2020 and developed a deep love for shelter animals and the mission of adoption. After their positive experience at Happy Cat Cafe, enjoying coffee in the presence of cats, they both had the same question: why is there nothing like this in Providence yet? Thus, the idea of Cafe Gato was born.

Addressing Common Concerns
Cleanliness
At Cafe Gato, we will maintain the highest standards of cleanliness. Our cafe and separate cat lounge will be regularly cleaned and sanitized to ensure a safe and pleasant environment for both our guests and our resident cats. We will have dedicated staff members to ensure that litter boxes are discreetly placed and frequently cleaned and that the dining area is kept separate from the cat lounge.
Safety
The safety of our guests and cats will be our top priority. All of our cats will be vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and regularly checked by veterinarians. We will also have protocols to ensure positive and stress-free interactions between guests and cats. Our staff will be trained to handle any situations that may arise and to provide guidance on how to interact with the cats appropriately.
Cross-Contamination of Food
Ensuring the safety and hygiene of our food offerings is paramount. At Cafe Gato, the cafe area and the cat lounge will be completely separated to prevent any cross-contamination. The dining area where food and beverages are prepared and served will be strictly off-limits to the cats. A physical barrier will be in place to ensure that cats remain in their designated lounge area, where guests can interact with them after enjoying their food and drinks. Our kitchen will follow rigorous health and safety standards, including frequent sanitization and adherence to local health regulations. This setup allows us to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for both our human guests and our feline residents.

Our focus on cleanliness, safety, and the well-being of our guests and cats will ensure everyone can enjoy their time at our cafe without any worries.
